Planning your La Jolla Party

It's always party season in La Jolla!

Regardless of what part of La Jolla you are living in, whether it is close to the beach in La Jolla Shores or Beach Barber Tract, or a bit further inland in La Jolla Village or Soledad South, a party is a party.  It can be whatever you want it to be.  If you choose to have a quiet, intimate dinner with a few of your closest friends or a no-holds-barred bash with everyone you know (and possibly some you don't), here are a few tips to get you started.  Similar rules apply to party planning that apply to writing a story.  Who, what, where, when, why and how.  In party planning the what and the why are usually the same.

Let's start with the "who".  Who would you like to join you in your La Jolla home for some fun?  Choose the right people for the type of party you are having.  If it is a work party, you probably wouldn't want to invite someone who does not work with you.  It could make conversation difficult and make the non co-worker uncomfortable.  If you are planning a kids birthday party, you probably wouldn't want to invite your co-workers unless they have children who are close to the age of the birthday boy or girl.  If it is an all out bash, try to keep it age appropriate.

Now, on to the "what".  What type of party is it that you are planning?  Is it a childs birthday party, an anniversary party, an adults birthday party or a just because I feel like having a party, party?  You will need to decorate accordingly and choose your invitations to relate to your theme.  Make sure your invitations are as specific as possible.

Ok, "where" are you having the party?  This could affect your guest list and the type of party you are having.  Make sure your location has enough space for the number of people you wish to invite.  If you are having it at your own La Jolla home and there is a possibilty of some noise, make sure to invite your neighbors.  If they are at the party, they may be less inclined to complain about the noise.

When will you be having your Party?  Give your guests a fair amount of time to prepare.  Unless you are throwing an off the cuff soiree and just start making calls to everyone you know, (sometimes this type of party is the most fun) give your potential guests at least a weeks notice.  Don't be disappointed if they don't show.

Here is the difficult part... the "how".  How are you going to do all you need to do to prepare for and actually throw the party?  If you are not great in the kitchen, you may want to consider having your event catered.  Ask your family members to assist you in decorating.  Try to make sure that you are ready when your guests arrive, they are to see you as much as they are there to party.  Most of all, have fun.
