The park is named after the La Jolla early resident and Scripps newspaper fortune heir. If you are new to the area, or visiting for the first time, there is a magical sight inside the park that holds a La Jolla communities secret. Theodor Seuss Geisel, who wrote forty four childrens books under the pen name Dr. Seuss, was a long time resident of La Jolla before his death in 1991. His most famous titles include Cat In The Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and How The Grinch Stole Christmas, just to name a few.
The wind-blown, surreal cypress tree is one of the most photographed landmarks in La Jolla communities. Many parents of La Jolla children spend their afternoons at the park, near the famed tree, while reading the works of Dr. Seuss. What a wonderful way to spend the day in La Jolla communities.
The park is a popular sunset watching spot and one of the most photographed places in San Diego. Scripps Park features huge grassy areas ideal for picnics, weddings or just lounging around and getting a tan.
